The students discussed the ritualistic origin of theater and organized themselves in groups that explored ritual through ritual performance propositions. The three parts of the ritual: separation, transition and re-integration, helped them organize their performance ritual .

Mediterranean Ritual

The group chose to meditate for a least 5 min. by focusing our minds on a certain object. This allowed for the group to develop a mentally clear and emotionally calmed state. Our group practiced deep breathing while closing our yes and giving ourselves a ma moment away from the world.

Water Ritual

We gather all surrounding water; put water in the center of the circle (on the magical water chair); clap hands in a rhythmic motion to summon the rain gods; return water to their original sources. All of this with the purpose of appeasing the rain gods for a good harvest.
I didn't know how many rituals were part of our daily lives that we might not even notice as we do them until this class. It was a great class because we were exposed to different meanings of a passage in one's life.
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful class session this was! We were able to create our own rituals while having fun doing it. Most definitely learned a lot with this activity.
