D'versity
Cloe M. Byron, Jeffrey, Brian
The main idea of this monumental sculpture is to represent Miami's diversity. This diversity is given by the influx and the efflux of people in an out of the city. The sculpture combines two concepts, one of function, (tourists may feel like taking pictures of themselves next to it), one of size; (it will be placed at Miami's Cruise Ship Terminal), and one more subjective, (such as that of representing Miami's diversity). The sculpture portrays two people, one that says goodbye to someone leaving Miami and one that is ready to embark on a journey.
Divine Femeninity
Manes Peribanez, Stephanie Abrahams, Jakki Charles
Still Life
Frank Vera, Iran Martinez, Osvaldo Perez, Luis Rodriguez
This piece represents a four-leaf clover to ultimately symbolize hope for our city. The four-leaf clover represents a clean environment and peace for Miami. We propose a stamp series to be produced by City of Miami. Our design, rather than portraying national leaders, portrays a simple flower that will bring good luck to those who live in Miami and those come to visit.
Cultural Mural
Adaijah Miller, Yunier Gonzalez, Cynthia Mederos
We propose the creation of a mural representing the different cultures that live in Miami. Miami is a diverse city that hosts different ethnic groups such as Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Haitians, Jamaicans, Dominicans, Colombians, Nicaraguans, African Americans, Bahamians, Jewish Americans, European Americans, Mexican Americans, Argentinians, Brazilians, Central Americans, Arab Americans and Asian Americans, among others. The mural will be placed on the west wall of the entrance building to the Port of Miami, across from the Children's Museum on the MacArthur Causeway. For this reason we have chosen Naïve art to represent the children of our community. The piece uses key colloquial phrases from different cultures to make everybody in Miami to feel at home.
Surrealist Cafecito
Vivi Jimenez, Carolina Bello, John Martinez
The piece is a monumental sculpture of a Cuban coffee cup spilling over. Out of the cup come out pictures of Cuban immigrants who live in the city. This piece would reflect the Cuban culture of Miami and the diversity of life styles within the Cuban community. The cafecito represents a major aspect of Cuban culture in Miami. The piece will be placed at the Cuban Memorial Park on 8th Street and 13th Avenue, in Little Havana.
Miami's David
Guillermo Herrera, Regla Morell, Salma Fernadez, Rubi Corporan
This piece will be located in the City of Miami. It is inspired by the statue of David by Michelangelo. The piece portrays David as an ethnically mixed man of diverse ancestry like most people who live in Miami. David, like Miami, was small compared to Goliath, and yet, like Miami won the respect of the world. The piece will be placed on top of the Miami International Airport Tower in order to bring attention to our city as the capital of the Americas. The Naïve art sketch symbolizes David's humble origins.
Dwyane Wade
Joshua Fernadez, Andrew Arenal, Ailyn Fiandor, Osvaldo Dominguez
We proposed for our piece to honor American professional basketball player for the Miami Heat Dwyane Wade (WW). The monumental statue will portray Wade dunking on a basket right outside of the American Airlines Arena. The statue will be placed near the entrance of the venue to welcome all his fans. The statue will be made of black marble granite to represent Wade's African American ancestry. The Naïve art drawing represents small children's creativity and their admiration WW.

This class assignment was another interesting one! My group chose a mural, in which we thought to share all of the cultures in Miami. I enjoyed this activity, as yet again, we were able to express our creativity.
